@AP--That solvent SS trust fund is full of IOUs, not money. The payroll tax cut means that there is less money being taken to pay for the present SS recipients' benefits so more money must be borrowed to make the payments unless federal spending is cut somewhere else.

@MireV03: My first employment experience with unions was in the 1970's. Though they were getting a bit sloppy at the time, they still policed their ranks themselves making sure the people doing the job knew their craft and put in a decent day's work--at least at the place I was working.

This will only be worthwhile in water pipelines flowing from sources in higher elevations to lower elevations. If a turbine is put into a pumped pipeline, it will take more pump energy to combat the increased pressure drop than the turbine will make due to the losses in the turbine.

This bill is misguided and will further decimate our economy at this time. The money given as economic stimulus should have gone into programs to optimize photovoltaic cell production and to help folks put solar shingles and solar tiles on their roofs.

I recall seeing a news story on 30APR or 01MAY about flights arriving into Mexico city virtually empty but leaving full because Cinco d Mayo was coming up.
